Fall at the Dallas Arboretum & Botanical Gardens

Hey y'all! Hope your week is flying by, because, let's be real, the 8 to 5 is for the birds! My week has gone pretty well, except it seems that my to do list is growing rather than shrinking. But the weekend is near, and that means work-work-work. Luckily, it's all the work I love to do! :) None of that yucky 8 to 5 mess. Anyway, how about some fun! I've gathered up a few pictures, yes just a few—I must've taken a million, of our visit to the Dallas Arboretum & Botanical Gardens during our Dallas trip.

Since we went in the Fall, the Arboretum was fully decked out in some 90,000 pumpkins! It's nothing short of magical! Along with all of the typical garden and lawn views, an area of the Arboretum is covered, and I mean covered, in thousands upon thousands of pumpkins of every variety and of every size! There are houses made of pumpkins, mazes of hay bales, and even a horse drawn carriage. It's truly a beautiful sight to see! Along with the beautiful pumpkins, while perusing the gardens, we caught a glimpse of a sail boat race in nearby White Rock Lake. That was really something, an unexpected treat!

The entire grounds is is truly a sight to see, and if you're ever in the area, especially in the Fall, you must stop by for a little visit. I must add, when you visit be sure to arrive early, just as they open, or you'll be waiting in a very long line! We arrived just in the nick of time, right at opening, and by the time we left, the line was at least a half a mile long. #notexaggerating We were very glad we made the Dallas Arboretum & Botanical Gardens our first stop of the day, and definitely happy we put this on our itinerary. You'll be happy you did too!

Bishop Arts District • Dallas

Hey there! I hope you had a great weekend, and are having a good week so far. Clearly last week got away from me, and I'm just now back to sharing more from our Dallas trip. But just in time for November 1st, and all the Fall-y goodness! Today I'm sharing bits from the Bishop Arts District, and it is fully decorated for Fall with pumpkins and mums and more. This is a happening little area with shops, antique stores, and boutique restaurants galore!

We had a ball perusing the antique shops, looking for nothing in particular, and specialty shops like a pet store! #duh #doglovers My favorite bit of this area is that there are several shops and restaurants that are in old homes! What's not to love? I hate to see old homes and buildings go to waste, and reviving them into stores is the perfect way to keep them around. Along with the old homes, there are strips of the sweetest old buildings filled with the quirkiest treasures. So dreamy! There is no shortage of shops & eats. Take a look at my faves.

Thanksgiving Square • Downtown Dallas

Monday again!!? Can't say I am too excited about it, but I did have a great weekend! I hope yours was good as well. We had a fine time in a sweet little town full of boutiques, antique shops, and B&Bs. Our weekend in Salado was spent shopping, spending quality time together, and making blown glass pumpkins which was the star of the weekend. I'll be sharing more details on our weekend early next week, but, in the meantime, I still have a bit to share from our time in Dallas. Today, I'm sharing one of my favorite stops, Thanksgiving Square in Downtown Dallas.

This breathtakingly beautiful spot is a garden and chapel located right in the middle of the concrete jungle, and is a place for all people of all walks of life of all religions to come to reflect and find solace. The grounds features a tranquil garden with a reflection pool and stone waterfall, as well as beautiful stone work with various quotes and scriptures carved throughout. Another beautiful part are windows etched with lovely quotes from various religions, leaders, and nationalities.

The star of the square is the stunning, stunning Thanksgiving Chapel. It is a spiraled chapel, with a sidewalk that wraps up and around the chapel to the entrance. Once inside, prepare to have your breath taken away! You'll be greeted by an absolutely beautiful stained glass ceiling, that is spiraled itself. It is one of the most beautiful stained glass works I've ever seen! Truly breathtaking! I think what makes this spot the most beautiful is that it is for everyone. How wonderful would the world be if there were more places like that?! Amazing to imagine!

Frontiers of Flight Museum • Dallas

Yippee!! It's Friday! This has seriously been the. longest. week. ever! So I am super excited to see the work week come to a close! Though I could use a little relaxation time, we have another fun weekend planned. We are heading to Salado tomorrow morning, mainly to blow our own glass pumpkins at a glass shop there. It is a fun little town with tons of cool shops and bed & breakfasts, so I'm looking forward to that. In the meantime, I need to get a few things done, and get our house and laundry put together so I won't have to worry about it on Sunday. Here's hoping I can get it all done! Anyway, let's get to some fun! Continuing on with our jam packed Dallas weekend of fun, today I'm sharing our visit to the Frontiers of Flight Museum at Dallas Lovefield.

This was stop number two on our weekend away in Dallas, and it was a good one! There are several flight/airplane museums in the Dallas area, and this was a our first to visit. I think it was a great one to see! I was impressed with the variety of flight exhibits they had from high school class made planes to military aircraft to hot air ballooning and on to space flight! Lots to see and learn! They didn't focus just on commercial flying or just on military, it was truly frontiers of all flying!

I enjoyed seeing the various flight suits from wars past, as well as flight attendant uniforms. It is amazing to see how much has changed. Speaking of change, there was even a case showing a plane's ashtray from the seventies. Huge change in flying there! I was also impressed by their children's play area. They have an indoor play area, as well as places for birthday parties! How fun would that be for a little boy's birthday! One of the party areas was even set up to look like an airplane hangar. Who wouldn't love that? 

I do have to say one of my favorite bits of the museum was on the upper level. It wasn't a huge display, just a small case, but it focused on the early successful flights from Europe to New York. It was so cool to see original news clippings of such an important part of flying history! Can you imagine if man had never accomplished that? We'd still be Titanic-ing across the Atlantic—no thanks!
